NFL Week 5
Email Peter
SU = Straight Up
ATS = Against the Spread
Tennessee Titans at Indianapolis Colts -18.5 Tennessee Titans (0-4 SU, 1-3 ATS)
Indianapolis Colts (4-0 SU, 3-1 ATS)
Well, this is quite a lopsided spread. Not that often you see a number this high and in this case, it might be warranted. The Tennessee Titans are just plain awful. They rank 2nd to last on defense and have the 3rd to last scoring offense. They go up against a Colts team that finally got their running game going against the New York Jets, rushing the ball for 160 yards. The Colts play so well at home, winning their last 16 of 18 at home. The Colts have won and covered both games against the Titans last year, beating them in the RCA Dome 35-3. The Titans are a team in complete disarray and I believe Head Coach Jeff Fisher has lost control of his team. This is evident by DT Albert Haynesworth's action on the field in Sundays game against the Dallas Cowboys. The Titans just have too many problems both on and off the field for me to bet, but I have no interest laying 18.5 on any NFL team. I'll be passing on this game.

Washington Redskins at New York Giants -4 Washington Redskins (2-2 SU, 2-2 ATS)
New York Giants (1-2 SU, 1-2 ATS)
The Redskins come into this monster game against their NFC East rival Giants with some nice momentum, winning and covering their last 2 games. The Redskins were on the brink of disaster, starting the season 0-2 and quickly out of contention for the NFC East and the playoffs. They rebounded nicely with a solid win on the road against the Texans, 31-15 and then last week a big win in overtime against the Jaguars. This string of consecutive wins can be attributed to RB Clinton Portis, who's played brilliantly since coming back from his shoulder injury. He's rushed for 198 yards and 3 TDs in those 2 wins. The Redskins, since finding their running game behind Portis, have put up 67 points in their last 2 games. Much maligned QB Mark Brunell has benefited greatly since the return of Portis. Brunell has a QB rating of 119 and 117 in his last 2 games, that's Pro Bowl type performance. This Redskin team is playing great football heading into New York. The Giants are coming off a bye, but before that they were routed on the road against the Seattle Seahawks. After that loss, TE Jeremy Shockey called out his Head Coach Tom Coughlin, saying "We got outplayed, and outcoached. Write that down". The Giants defense has been brutal, giving up over 30 points a game. They now face a red hot Redskins team that's been lighting up the score board of late. I have to take the Redskins and the points in this game. I have the team that is playing better football getting 4 points in what should be a very closely contested matchup between these bitter rivals. Take the points in this game.
