Drosselmeyer’s bruised foot. Final works for 4 horses.
The Wertheimer Brothers are changing things up again, adding their colt Interactif to the field in the 2010 Belmont Stakes. The Wertheim Brothers were originally putting their colt Setsuko into the race, however they pulled him a while back because his training was not going as well as they thought.
Todd Pletcher, trainer and winner of the 2007 Belmont Stakes, made the decision after seeing the colt do a great work on Saturday. This is not the first time Pletcher has made a call like this so close to posting the Belmont. When he won in 2007, he announced Rags to Riches would run the same week as the race. Javier Castellano will mount the horse. Castellano last rode Stately Victor in the Blue Grass Stakes back in April.
Despite a foot problem, Drosselmeyer is still posting great times leading up to the 2010 Belmont Stakes. It turns out that Drosselmeye bruised his frogs, the parts of the feet that absorb shock. Bar shoes were added on Saturday, but he will not race in them. Drosselmeyer worked 5 furlongs in 59.6 seconds on Monday, May 31st. WinStar farms, the owner, does not think this will affect his performance on Saturday.
Stately Victor also did his final work this weekend did a half mile in 49.93 seconds on the main track while Make Music for Me ran 5 furlongs in 1:01.21 on the training track. That was the fasted time Make Music for Me has given at that distance. Game on Dude is still in California and worked a 6 furlong stretch at 1:12.40.
Posts for the horses will be drawn at 11AM on Wednesday, June 2nd.
Weather for 5 June: High of 82 degrees with 20% chance of rain.
