The Atlanta Braves are heavy favorites in the NL East, but some recent struggles give hope (and value) to a number of other teams.
Here’s the latest from the baseball gurus at Belmont.ag.
Atlanta (1/10) leads Philly by 3.5 games, the NY Mets by 7.5 and Florida by 8.5. However, the Braves are just 6-6 since the break and continue to struggle on the road (24-29). This is a team that could collapse the last two months.
Philadelphia (3/1) was the heavy division favorite before the season began. They’ve finally started to play better with a seven-game winning streak. Those came mostly at home, with the bats picking up the pace. The Phils will need to play better on the road to have a chance down the stretch.
Florida (30/1) is known for making strong runs towards the playoffs and this year is no exception. The Marlins are 8-4 in their last 12 games. Having an incredible ace like Josh Johnson really helps their chances.
New York (30/1) started the second half on an 11-game road trip, going 2-9. They’ve returned home (going 1-1) where they’ve been good all year. However, Florida is the better value of the 30/1 teams.
Washington (1000/1) has a lot to look forward to next year with the development of phenom Stephen Strasburg and No. 1 overall pick this year Bryce Harper. However, the Nationals chances this year are over at 15.5 games back.
2010 NL East Odds
Atlanta Braves 1/10
Philadelphia Phillies 3/1
Florida Marlins 30/1
New York Mets 30/1
Washington Nationals 1000/1
