Stanford Cardinals (+8) @ Oklahoma Sooners
Thurs. Dec. 31st New Year’s Eve 2pm EST
Total: 55.5
This season the Brut Sun Bowl game will showcase two college football teams that went in opposite directions this year in terms of expectations. Last season the Oklahoma Sooners were BCS title contenders led by Heisman trophy winning quarterback Sam Bradford.
The Sooners were so good last season that they just outscored teams on a weekly basis by huge margin, but this season has been completely different ever since Bradford went down in the first game of the season with a shoulder injury on his throwing arm. The injury turned out to be disastrous for the Sooners as the limped through the rest of the season and now will have to settle for a bowl game against the up and coming Stanford Cardinals on New Year’s Eve.
Earlier in this college football season Stanford didn’t look all that special with three losses in the first seven games to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons and PAC-10 conference opponents in the Arizona Wildcats and the Oregon State Beavers.
The losses to the Wildcats and the Beavers weren’t all that surprising as both Arizona and Oregon State have been very good college football teams this season, but it did seem as though the Cardinals were headed for yet another disappointing season, at least until they played and beat the Oregon Ducks and USC Trojans in consecutive games.
The two wins over their big name conferences rivals put Stanford and running back Toby Gerhart on the map in the college football world and despite the loss to the California Golden Bears in the last game of the regular season, the Cardinals have been a force to be reckoned with in college football this season.
As of right now the Sooners are favored by -8 points in the Brut Sun Bowl, but I believe that Gerhart and company will pull off yet another big upset hear as they will be the team to come out on top in this bowl game!
