Over the past week or so, New Orleans Hornets All-Star point guard Chris Paul has very publicly expressed his interested in being traded from the team that drafted him back in 2005.
Last season the New Orleans Hornets really struggled all season long, fired head coach Byron Scott and had their superstar point guard watching from the bench for the majority of the year due to injury. Even though Paul couldn’t contribute much to the team last season and let rookie point guard Darren Collison make a name for himself as the starter, it was obvious that the Hornets are few pieces of the puzzle away from competing with the best of the best in the Western Conference.
A few seasons ago, Chris Paul was able to lead this team into the playoffs and all the way to the Western Conference Finals, but unfortunately they were sent packing by the San Antonio Spurs and were unable to reach the NBA Finals.
That successful season showed many people that the Hornets were a serious force to be reckoned with and a new superpower in the league, but since that season, they just haven’t been able to repeat that performance.
Now Chris Paul feels it is time to move as he has seen other teams around the league like the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers and most recently the Miami Heat build NBA title contenders with combinations of superstar players.
Even though it seemed like a foregone conclusion that Chris Paul would be traded from the New Orleans Hornets to the New York Knicks or the Orlando Magic, the three-time All-Star has changed his mind after talking with meeting with Hornets management.
Reportedly, Paul didn’t even request a trade from the New Orleans Hornets on Monday during this meeting and only wanted to see what plans were being made in order to turn this team into a title contender in the Western Conference once again.
This is without a doubt good news for the New Orleans Hornets, but I believe that Chris Paul could still be on his way out of the Big Easy if moves don’t get made and made fast!
Odds to win an NBA title:
New Orleans Hornets: 50 to 1
Orlando Magic: 8 to 1
New York Knicks: 45 to 1
