The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets lost some top-flight talent to the NFL, but they’re still a top-20 team in the eyes of most.

Belmont.ag has Georgia Tech at 50/1 to win college football’s national title. That only trails Virginia Tech (15/1) and Miami (30/1) from the ACC.

Many of the early preseason polls have Florida State ahead of Georgia Tech in the conference. However, the college football betting oddsmakers disagree.

Georgia Tech is the defending conference champs after going 11-3 last year. That included a disappointing 24-14 loss to Iowa in the Orange Bowl.

The Hawkeyes’ defense limited Georgia Tech’s triple-option attack to just 143 rushing yards. The Yellow Jackets averaged 295 YPG on the season, second in the country.

Georgia Tech had just four players taken in the NFL draft, but it was quality over quantity. Defensive end Derrick Morgan was taken in the first round and so was receiver Demaryius Thomas. Safety Morgan Burnett was taken in the third round.

Running back Jonathan Dwyer was selected in the sixth, but that was low for someone who gained 1,395 yards. His departure will sting less with running backs Anthony Allen and Roddy Jones returning.

That doesn’t even include quarterback Josh Nesbitt, who is more of a runner than a passer. He gained over 1,000 yards on the ground while throwing for 1,701. There are seven returning starters on offense in total, including Nesbitt.

The defense has a new coordinator in Al Groh. He is the former head coach of Virginia and has lots of NFL coordinator experience too. He will transition to a 3-4 defense with his eight returning starters.

Coach Paul Johnson is one of the most underrated guys in the country. People may think his offense is gimmicky, but it wins games. I think this team is underrated this year and will contend in the ACC.
