The Texas Longhorns look to get back on the winning track when they play the Iowa State Cyclones on Wednesday night.

Texas is a nine-point favorite at Belmont.ag. This is a 9:30 pm ET game on ESPN360 and part of the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City.

Texas (23-8 SU, 10-17 ATS) started out 17-0 and was the No. 1 team in the country. This was a squad that scored at will and played with a passion and confidence that scared opponents.

Now fast forward to today. Texas finished the Big 12 season 9-7 SU and they were especially mediocre on the road at 3-5 SU. They’ve been rocked by a loss of point guards, Varez Ward earlier in the season and Dogus Balbay more recently.

Texas is still relying on three freshmen and two are in the starting lineup (Avery Bradley, J’Covan Brown). There is no real floor general and center Dexter Pittman is a no-show as his minutes and shots have gone down.

Iowa State (15-16 SU, 15-12-1 ATS) only finished 4-12 in the conference, but they played much better the last four games, gong 2-2 SU and 3-0-1 ATS. They also won at Kansas State last Saturday in overtime, and they were ranked fifth in the country.

Iowa State has a couple of very good players in Craig Brackins and Marquis Gilstrap, plus an underrated supporting cast. I think they work off their recent momentum, and give struggling Texas everything they can handle.

I’m taking Iowa State (+9).
