With both New York teams aiming to claim the first victory in the new Meadowlands Stadium tonight, both teams will want to ensure that their offenses are running smoothly and efficiently. With the Jets playing their second game only five days from now, they are treating this game as they would a later pre-season game and planning on playing the 1st team on both sides of the ball for at least the first quarter.
Coach Rex Ryan has already come out and said that his starters will likely see action during the first quarter and a series after, so you can expect to see the Jets looking to come out firing. They are also expected to play WR Santonio Holmes quite a bit this pre-season given he will be out for the first 4 weeks of the season and needs to get his reps in. That means that the Jets will have a distinct advantage at this position throughout the pre-season so look for them to rack up some points.
The Giants are using this game as a typical week 1 pre-season game, so don’t expect to see the starters in for more than a series or two. That means that the reserves for the Giants will be up against better talent earlier in the game and could get burned more often.
This doesn’t equate to the Jets rolling in this game, but what it does tell bettors at Belmont is that we are likely to see a lot of points in this contest. The total has already risen a full point from 32.5 to 33.5, as bettors are taking heed of this news. As with last night’s Cincinnati/Denver game, when the starters get longer playing time against reserves they tend to move up and down the field easier and that is what enabled the Bengals to get back inot the game and ultimately win.
With the spotlight on the new stadium, the Giants and all the new faces for the Jets, the players will not want to disappoint. Although it is pre-season, points will be scored tonight and a bet on the Over is a solid wager.
Take Over 33.5 points tonight.
