The Oklahoma Sooners are the small Big 12 favorite in the just released conference odds at Belmont.ag.
Oklahoma (5/4) had a tough year in 2009. First, they lost star tight end Jermaine Gresham before the College football betting season began. Quarterback Sam Bradford was hurt in the opening game and played little the rest of the season.
The good news is the team still won eight games, including a win over Stanford in the Sun Bowl. They also found their quarterback for the next three years in Landry Jones. He was inconsistent, but also showed tremendous promise for a freshman.
Texas (2/1) is still smarting from the national title loss to Alabama. It’s always hard to lose, but when your star quarterback (Colt McCoy) gets knocked out early, it’s doubly painful. Talented sophomore Garrett Gilbert will lead a new-look offense.
Texas and Okalahoma will square off Oct. 2 in the Red River Rivalry. The winner should take the Big 12 South.
Nebraska (2/1) has the huge advantage being from the North division. The defense should be great once again and the offense is improving. Teams will be gunning for them as they’re leaving for the Big Ten next season, but Missouri (15/1) looks like the only real competition from the North.
Texas Tech (12/1) and Texas A&M (25/1) really get hurt being in the same division as Oklahoma and Texas. A&M has an explosive offense led by quarterback Jerrod Johnson.
Texas Tech’s Tommy Tuberville replaces popular (at least by the fans) coach Mike Leach. If the defense improves, then this squad is also dangerous.
