Two teams fighting for the AL wild-card, the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Angels, start a three-game series Monday night in SoCal.
Belmont.ag has Boston as -120 MLB betting road favorites, with a total of nine-runs. First pitch is at 10:10 pm ET.
The pitching matchup is Boston’s Clay Buchholz (10-5, 2.81 ERA) versus Joel Pineiro (10-7, 4.18 ERA.
Boston (55-44) is in the middle of a grueling 10-game road trip that started with Oakland and Seattle. The Sox are 3-4 so far and eight games behind the Yankees in the AL East. They trail Tampa Bay by five in the wild-card and must win this series!
Los Angeles (52-49) is coming off a tough series at Texas, losing three of four. That means L.A. is seven games behind Texas in the AL West. The Angels are also nine games back in the wild-card.
Buchholz is a developing star at 25-years-old. However, he’s only made one start in the last month due a hamstring injury. That came at Oakland last Wednesday and he was roughed up for five earned runs over four innings.
Pineiro was extremely hot before the break. He went 7-0 with a 2.51 ERA in eight starts, with L.A. winning all of them. Pineiro has made one start post-break, giving up six earned runs in six innings at the Yankees.
For the year, Pineiro is 7-2 with a 2.37 ERA at home. Neither of these teams is hitting great, but the value is with the home team.
I’m taking Los Angeles (Even)
