What happens when your team is ranked 29th in the NFL in offense and 29th in defense? You get the No. 1 overall pick like the St. Louis Rams.

The draft started as expected for St. Louis. Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford was the pick, and he has all the makings of a franchise quarterback. The problem is he doesn’t have a lot of good targets around him. Donnie Avery was the leading receiver at less than 600 yards.
The offensive line has question marks too. O-Tackle Rodger Saffold from Indiana was the first pick in the second round, and he’s needed to protect Bradford.
The team’s one real franchise player is running back Steven Jackson (1,416 rushing yards), but how many more hits can he take and still be effective?
The defense has a lot of work to do, but at least coach Steve Spagnuolo came from that side of the ball with the Giants. The highest defensive player drafted was South Florida cornerback Jerome Murphy in the third round.
It’s interesting that the Rams concentrated on offense in the draft.
Season Outlook: St. Louis is going be real bad again. The only question is whether Bradford plays right away (likely) and whether they can keep him from getting killed?
It wouldn’t be surprising to see St. Louis picked first in the draft next year as well.
