In a candid 1-on-1 interview with the NFL network, a calm and composed Vincent Jackson talked about his contract situation and said with conviction that he is willing to sit out the entire season if a resolution that satisfies both parties is not found.
Jackson, the WR for San Diego said that he truly misses the game of football and the friendship with his teammates, but understands that this is a business and that given his production over the years, it is not worth him at all to play for the tender they offered him. That tender is for $600,00 which astronomically low and there is no way Jackson would ever come back to play for that.
He has had no direct contact with management in the San Diego organization and is wondering about San Diego’s approach to this negotiation. He is hopeful that he will suit up for the Chargers this season but understands that unless he is compensated fairly, it may be time for him to move on.
He has no concerns about paying the fines levied to a player that holds out, saying that he has been smart with his money over the years, so he really is cemented in his stance on this issue. He knows it will be tough watching all his teammates and friends in the league suit up and play every Sunday, but he also knows that this is necessary for him to do as well.
With Jackson potentially holding out for the entire season or getting traded, backing the Raiders (+600), Chiefs (+600) and Broncos (+700) to win the AFC West division all increased in value. The Chargers are still a huge favorite at -300, but without their best WR it will be tough for them to stretch the field vertically against teams without that big-bodied Jackson striding down the sideline. His absence also creates a good spot to back the Chargers under 11 wins.
For fantasy football players out there, with Jackson still being somewhat optimistic that he will play in San Diego this season and he could always be moved, he is a great value pick in the later rounds when most others have forgotten about him at the WR position. If you can afford to draft him in one of the last rounds and have the patience to hold on to him for awhile as news continues to come from this story, he could be a great addition to your roster come fantasy playoff time.
